Male Fertility
Male Fertility Explained and Discussed

Men
manufacture sperm constantly. The process takes place in the testicles and
lasts 70 to 80 days. Because sperm enter and leave the assembly line
continuously, a healthy man may have two to three billion in the works at any
moment. You don't need a calculator to see how even a small problem can
create millions of factory rejects.
Before you race off to the
doctor or because you believe you have low fertility, you first should know what
a healthy fertility count is and how doctors measure it.
Doctors consider three
factors :
-
Normal Count :
Below 22 million and you're infertile.
-
Motility :
You want sperm that are mobile and could qualify for
the swimming Olympics.
-
Morphology :
the structure of your sperm, long tails, oval shaped
heads. Fertile men have 40% - 50% normal structure sperm.
At age 20 you're a stallion,
producing about 6 and a half grams of sperm per day per gram of testicular
tissue. By age 80 the activity in the fountain has been reduced to a
trickle, with sperm output less than half what it once was, due to 3 factors :
-
Narrowing of the arteries
that deliver blood to the testicles.
-
Aging of testicular cells
themselves.
-
Sperm become less mobile
and more misshapen as you age.
There is a very effective home
sperm count test kit that you can use to measure male fertility before you
"classify" yourself as "infertile".
Just so you know, at least 50
percent of couples who try to attain pregnancy (most of whom are normal heath
fertile adults) do not achieve pregnancy within the first three month's of
having unprotected sex.
Male
Fertility:
In about 40% of infertile
couples, the cause of the infertility lies with the males. There are many
reasons for male infertility.
Quick Fact:
It takes approximately 72-90 days to produce mature sperm. Sperm is produced 24
hours a day, 7 days a week.
There are many factors that
can decrease or cease sperm production. Here are a few:
·
Illness
·
Excessive Caffeine
·
Stress
·
Street and certain Prescription Drugs
·
Some over the counter medications
·
Injury to the testicles
·
Blockage in the Vas Deferens
