Sexually Transmitted Diseases
How sexually
transmitted diseases affect the male penis

These are some of the more common sexually
transmitted diseases that I come across in my practice. With the advent of
HIV AIDS, many of the diseases mentioned below have shift to the
"backstage".
With estimates of up to 50% of the American
Population infected with some sort of Sexually Transmitted Disease, more serious
efforts have to be made by our health sector to educate, prevent and treat these
common occurring diseases that affects a large part of our adult workforce.
Genital
Warts.
The human papilloma virus (HPV). Small, fleshy growths anywhere in the
genital area. Hpv takes between one and three months to appear
Symptoms
Pinkish white lumps appearing individually or in groups on the penis, the
scrotum and anus. Painless apart from a slight itching.
Chlamydia
Most common
bacterial infection for men. Causes infertility if untreated.
Symptoms
White, cloudy and watery discharge from the penis that leaves a stain on
underwear. A pain or burning sensation on urinating. Can transmit to eyes
Non-specific
Urethritis An
inflammation of the Urethra most commonly caused by clamydia.
Symptoms
Same as clamydia with a feeling of needing to urinate frequently.
Genital
Herpes This type two herpes simplex virus (HSV) causes sores in the genital
area.
Symptoms
Tingling sensation in genitals and anal area.Fluidfilled blisters burst and
leave painful sores. Accompanied by symptoms of flu with backache,
headache and swollen glands
Gonorrea
Infection that inflames the testicles and prostate
Symptoms
: Yellow or white penis discharge and irritation from the anus. It
is also possible to be infected and have no symptoms.
If
you think you have any of the above, consult your doctor!
I
always caution about this: Practice safe sex and make sure you make use of a
condom if you are not abstaining from sex as the prevalence of the above
mentioned diseases leads to very difficult health problems.
Apart
from the symptoms and physical effects that goes with sexually transmitted
diseases, the psychological effects are in some cases devastating. Apart
from the embarrassment there is also the threat of rejection and the subsequent
loss of love and intimacy (including loss of sexual intercourse) that often
associates the "confession" of being infected by a sexually
transmitted disease.
